Rick Owens is an Avant-garde American designer who was born and currently working in Paris, some people maybe never even heard of his name before. But yes, Rick Owens is a multi-millionaire fashion designer adored by celebrities and well known among the fashion community, some of the names are Courtney Love, Helena Bonham Carter and Madonna. His design is defined by his vigorous taste of grunge rock and dark-glamor, transforming fashion into a cutting edge haute-couture. And as always, his collection is always remarkable, some articles and media even named him 'The next Karl Lagerfeld'. I know my fellow friend, Alyssa Kwan probably has more things to say when it comes to woman's fashion, but I am easily fascinated by well-composed fashion photography, especially the one as good as Rick Owens' Palais Royal lookbook for Fall/Winter 2009, and yet I need to blurt out some words.
I don't know if Rick Owens has came up with any 'name' for this campaign, but I won't be bothered to find out because I have came up with my own 'name', 'Snow Queen'. Maybe because the model's look fits the description or the fact that I am just too shallow as to relate any F/W fashion campaign with the word 'snow'. But that's the first word that popped into my head the second I put my eyes onto this. The sophisticated, asymmetrical design with long-drapy materials made of high quality leather and fur, looks magical in dark-grey color palette.
Speaking of 'fur', I am very sorry if you happen to be one of the green peace workers or Anti-Fur Activist. 'Palais Royal' is a FUR line by Rick Owens, so this post might offend some of you. I am an animal lover and it breaks my heart to imagine any kind of animals has to be harmed in order to give bunch of greedy humans a fake self image over insecurity issues. But apparently some people just couldn't look away from the hypnotic stare of the 'Snow Queen' and resist the charm, even if it means they have to hold a club on the left hand and a baby seal on the right hand. But anyway, That's gonna be a whole different post. Why don't we just leave it to the expert and just sit and admire this masterpiece for now. ( photos from http://www.rickowens.eu/ )
